Saturday, January 18, 2020, was mi esposa’s birthday, and I decided to take her out to dinner at La Casa de Miguel, a popular eatery near the center of Grecia. I had been there once before for a meeting but had never eaten there. An expat friend told me that the food was delicious, but a little pricy, so I knew what to expect.
The restaurant’s ambiance was a very nice Costa Rican-styled restaurant. The waiter and waitress greeted us at the door and guided us to our table on the veranda, where a large family was enjoying their meal. The place was virtually empty, which was not surprising because we were there around 3 PM—a slow time for most restaurants as it falls between lunchtime and dinner. We soon had the veranda to ourselves, which was very romantic on such a special day.
The service was excellent as the waitress came to our table with a big smile and took our order in perfect English. The menu had lots of good choices, and we both ordered the grilled salmon dinner, which came with mashed potatoes and a fresh green salad. Believe me, the portions were huge! We finished the meal off with a big piece of cheesecake topped with a strawberry sauce that was amazing. After a meal like this, in Tagalog, I would always say “busog na ako,” which means “I’m full.”
The dinner was outstanding, and I highly recommend La Casa de Miguel to anyone visiting Grecia in the future. La Casa de Miguel is very easy to find. It’s a couple of blocks behind the Big Red Church in the town center. You won’t be disappointed!
