During my second week in Costa Rica, back in November 2019, some friends brought me to Mas Q Sabor for lunch. It was such a great dining experience! I met the owner, Johnny Lara, who greeted us with a big smile and seemed to know every customer who entered the restaurant, both locals and expats. The location, the delicious food, and the ambiance were truly special, and it was fun sharing lunch with new friends.
Mas Q Sabor soon became my favorite restaurant—and not only because of the delicious food and ambiance. Owners Johnny and his wife Karol are incredibly gracious and welcoming to all of their many customers. Mas Q Sabor is located near the town center of Grecia, and you can often find several expats enjoying their meals who are willing to strike up a conversation with other guests.
Johnny and his wife Karol started the restaurant to provide a Mexican grill, salads, burritos, and other foods that they liked from all over. Over time, their customers began to ask for additional dishes, both national and foreign, so Johnny and Karol added some cuts of carne, pasta, rice, hamburgers, sandwiches, seafoods, Peruvian ceviche, and much more.
Today is the first time Tezzy and I could visit Mas Q Sabor since the COVID-19 outbreak. We’ve really missed this place, so we were excited to try the Sunday brunch for the very first time. We’re currently sitting at our favorite table near the open-air windows, which means we can enjoy a great meal while people watch at the same time.
My favorite dish is the chicken tacos dorado with the picante sauce, served with rice and beans; Tezzy’s favorite is the shrimp and rice dish with their tasty fruit drink. I also love the mixed chicken/beef fajitas, and the tortilla soup is the bomb! But today is Sunday brunch so I’m having the omelette vegetariano while Tezzy is having desayuno tradicional—both great choices! Pura vida.
