On most days, when I awake to the birds chirping love songs outside my window, I’m not even sure what day it is.  The days seem to run together, and I become oblivious to the day of the week.  I guess that’s what being retired is all about. Recently, a retired friend of mine posted a joke about retirement on Facebook that read “How many days in a week?” and the answer is “6 Saturdays and 1 Sunday”. And that’s precisely how I feel living here in beautiful Costa Rica. 

Currently, we’re in the middle of the rainy season, and I love it.  I always say, “if you don’t like the rain, don’t move to Costa Rica.”  The rainy season typically begins in May and runs through November. I thoroughly enjoy the season, the hills and valleys turn a verdant shade of jade, and there is absolutely no smog.  We reside on one of the ridges in Grecia, Costa Rica, where we don’t require air conditioners or heaters at any time during the year. The temperature is regularly about 78 degrees year-round.  We reside in a small farming community known for its many sugarcane and coffee plantations.  The locals are amiable and will not hesitate to start a conversation with you even though my Spanish is lacking. If you’re lost, they will not hesitate to help you with directions and getting on the right path.

I cannot say enough about life here in Costa Rica; I’ve met many expats and locals who I now call my friends.  Tezzy and I often share lunch with friends in the town center, being invited to an event at a friend’s casa, or celebrating a birthday at a local restaurant or a private home.

I moved to Costa Rica to retire and chill, but it seems that I am busier now than ever before.  A group of us expats recently created an internet radio station called Blaxit Radio, of which I am program director. We have DJ/Host located in Costa Rica, Panama, Mexico, Tanzania, Detroit, and Los Angeles. We performed a soft launch on July 9^th, where we’re only streaming music 24/7 and have already attracted visitors to our website from many countries worldwide.
