Blaxit Radio was created in early June of 2021 by a few black expats from the United States residing in Costa Rica. Initially, a group of us expats came together by the insistence of Jeanetta Owens to help support and help raise funds for a black Costa Rican friend, who is the owner of a very slick and one-of-a-kind magazine focused on the black diaspora of Latin America. So there were eight or nine of us on a Zoom Call to discuss some strategies.
Out of that Zoom Call, the idea of creating an internet radio station arose, and that’s when the journey began. We first came up with Blaxit Radio’s name to focus on the Blaxit community worldwide. Blaxit is an acronym that means:
Blaxit is a social movement that promotes the expatriation of Black/African-African Americans from the U.S. to destinations abroad. The term Blaxit was coined in the wake of Brexit by academic, journalist, and human rights consultant Dr. Ulysses Burley III. The term combines Black and Exit to form Blaxit in the same manner that Brexit describes the British Exit from the European Union.
So it was a fitting name. It’s estimated that thousands upon thousands of people worldwide represent the Blaxit community.
The station offers music, mostly Smooth Jazz, Quiet Storm, R&B, Reggae, Jazz Around the World, and various talk shows, featuring DJs and Host’s from Costa Rica, Panama, Mexico, Tanzania, and Detroit. The station operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and our broadcast schedule and the Blaxit Team, members Bio’s can be accessed through our website portal at: https://www.blaxitradio.com.
OUR MISSION STATEMENT:
Through radio excellence, we will create a unique community resource designed specifically for the needs of the Blaxit community, one that promotes connections, fosters a sense of belonging , and provides a diverse array of programming. We seek to stimulate, educate, and entertain our audience through a broad mix of music, news, opinion, and talk shows on various topics. In addition, we strive to bridge cultures in our communities and value the knowledge and skills that the local community bringss to the station.
Blaxit Radio is the first of its kind, and we are incredibly proud that our listenership and website visitors come from over fifteen different countries while receiving rave reviews.
